HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN- Cuentos

The Ugly Duckling (El Patito Feo)

Once upon a time there was a beautiful farm where a lot of animals lived. One day, Mrs Duck started incubating some eggs. Everyday the other animals asked her when her babies were going to be born. She always answered "not yet" they will be beautiful and I will teach them how to swim and how to run. Some days later Mrs. Duck felt some little hits coming from the inside of the eggs. The eggs broke and the little ducks were born, but one of the eggs did not open. "Why hasn´t this come out?", asked Mrs. Duck very worried. Finally the last egg broke open. It was horrible!

Mrs. Duck wondered who it looked like, and his brothers didn´t want to play with him because he was different.

All the animals in the farm made jokes on him and he suffered a lot. One day the ugly duckling went with his brothers to the pond. The ugly duckling swam very well, and his brothers were envious, and they told him: "go away!" "We don´t love you" and the ugly duckling went away.

The winter came, and the ugly duckling was cold, he found a hut. He knocked at the door. A big bear opened the door, invited the ugly duckling in, and offered the duckling to spend the winter in his hut. His real intention was to feed the duckling during the winter and eat it in spring. The ugly duckling escaped and arrived at a pond where some beautiful swams were swimming. The duck got into the pond and saw his reflection in the water. He looked like the swams, he was a swam too and all the other animals admired him.
